pearls – Represents my Daughter
and
lace – Me, Lacie Swartzendruber, the owner, the designer
While I was attending college at the University of Iowa I worked in the floral department at the
Waterfront Hy-Vee in Iowa City, Iowa. I had always had a love for flowers and from the moment I
started in that department I knew this was what I wanted to do. I enrolled in the Floral Careers program
at Kirkwood Community College the next semester. From there I finished with a Degree in Floriculture
in 2002. After school I started my floral career at Pierson’s Floral in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Then in 2004 I made my journey back to Minnesota.
On February 14, 2004 I joined the team at Stems and Vines Grand Ave. in St. Paul MN. This is where my
design skills really began to blossom. I uncovered my creative style and art of Floral Design. When my
manager, Tia, asked me to move into the Wedding department of Stems and Vines, I knew I was up for
the challenge.
After the birth of my daughter in July of 2005 I knew I needed a more flexible job to be able to stay
home with my little lady. With the support of family and friends and the confidence I have been
building I decided to start my own company.
It was January 2006, the beginning of pearls and lace floral design.
I would like to give special credit to Summer and Tia at Stems and Vines for all of the training and
techniques I had learned. For that gave me the confidence to leave and starting my own wedding business.
